JOSEPHINE TISCHER (she/her)
Working as a graphic designer is more than just an addition to my roles as a photographer and digital photo editor. Since starting to work independently in 2009, I have collaborated closely with my father, UWE WALTER. Together with my brother, FREUND WALTER, we founded Walter.Studios.
In 2016, I was awarded a diploma in graphic design from the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig. Putting myself out there in the applied arts has still the biggest impact on me.
Along the way, I got married, travelled the world and became a parent in 2021. My family and I are firmly rooted in our hometown of Berlin.

The back of the MAMIYA RZ67 lies open on my lap. I free the roll film from its squeaky packaging, insert it, thread it through the small tab and screw it in. There is a satisfying click as soon as I close the back cover. Now I pull the film further until the little red E appears in the viewfinder window. Done, I call to my dad and hand him the medium format camera ...
I started accompanying my father at an early age. Studios, galleries and museums became a second home. Today, my brother has also joined us, and so we have grown up together as a family in the profession. We call ourselves Walter.Studios. The artistic field has remained our home base. As photographers, our main focus is on the digitisation of artworks of all formats. Captured for analogue publications and balanced websites.
In 2016, I received my diploma (graphic design) from the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig. In the system design class, I spent an incredibly inspiring time under Prof. Maureen Mooren & Britt Helbig, which still resonates with me today. In addition, the designer and founder of MMKOEHN Verlag, Maria Magdalena Koehn, had a profound influence on me and my artistic growth — she was always more than just a role model to me.
Creating a unique level of communication through aesthetic means and combining this with my photographic expertise fulfils me in the most wonderful way.

Having grown up so close to my father’s work, I would describe our relationship here as an apprenticeship alliance. It definitely turned into a profession, and I can say that I learnt the craft from the scratch.
